STRENGTHEN YOUR FAMILY
As Alaskans, who we identify and call family varies widely, but one thing remains the same: we, as men, are driven to create happier, healthier lives for the ones we love. Family life is a huge mix of so many experiences and emotions, often contradictory. From happiness and pride to stress and worry, from frustration and anger to ease and pure joy, our families are the source of so many differing emotions. The Strengthen campaign wants to help men create positive growth and change, not just for us, but for those we care about most by supporting our work as men in strengthening our families. Below are a few resources we are using to strengthen our families.

PARENTING
The National Parent Helpline® will promote 5 key protective factors for families:
• Parental resilience: your ability to effectively cope with the various challenges of parenting and everyday life
• Social connections: emotional and concrete assistance from friends, family, neighbors, and other community members
• Knowledge of parenting and child development: accurate information about how to raise your children and appropriate expectations of child behavior
• Concrete support in times of need: financial security as well as access to formal financial support, such as TANF; and informal support from social networks
• Children’s social and emotional development: children’s ability to effectively interact with other people and appropriately communicate their emotions
As the Me Too movement works to give women and girls a greater voice, it is also bringing new attention to how boys are raised and the pressures they face. According to research, 30% of high school boys say they have been in a fight. The latest data also shows boys are more likely to take their own lives than girls. Psychologist Michael Reichert joins "CBS This Morning" to discuss his new book, "How to Raise a Boy: The Power of Connection to Build Good Men."
